5 Wild Places to Travel This Summer For That Unforgettable Adventure

Posted on May 18 2017

Summer is just around the corner and you haven’t made any travel plans. You are craving adventure. You long to be somewhere you can feel the sun on your back and the dirt under your toes. Your last-minute summer travel goals are simple: to get outside and go somewhere new. The only thing you don’t know is where to go. That’s where I come in. Here are five of my favorite destinations for the active traveler. If you are looking for beautiful, adventurous places to travel this summer, then this list is for you.

  1. Gozo Island, The Republic of Malta

Best Exotic Summer Travel

Malta is a popular tourist destination. More specifically, it’s a popular cruise ship destination. The island of Malta is crowded with tourists and in the thick of construction and commercialization. But don’t let that fool you. Because just a 20-minute ferry ride away lies the island of Gozo, a quiet, untouched island perfect for exploring.

The minute you cross over to Gozo you will feel as though you’ve entered a new world. This sleepy island is full of warm-hearted locals, beautiful beaches, and delicious food. Gozo is the perfect place to travel this summer if you are looking for an opportunity to hike, kayak, swim, and simply enjoy the great outdoors.

  1. Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Best Exotic Summer Travel

Another popular destination, it is no secret that Costa Rica is a gorgeous country. Most tourists spend their time in the northern half of the island, but if your last-minute summer travel goals are to escape and enjoy untouched nature, then keep going south until you reach the Osa Penninsula.

The Osa Penninsula is one of the most biodiverse locations in the world. Every inch of this little paradise is covered in luscious rainforest. You’ll wake up to the sounds of birds and monkeys greeting the sun and fall asleep with millions of stars shining brightly overhead. This is the perfect destination for anyone looking to reconnect to Mother Nature in all her glory.

  1. Cinque Terre, Italy

Best Exotic Summer Travel

Tourists from around the world travel to these five bays on the Italian coast, but what few of them do is hike from one to the other. If you want to get away from the tourists and experience the real magic of Cinque Terre, then it’s time to hit the trails.

Cinque Terre is on countless “Best Hikes Around the World” lists, and for good reason. There are a few winding trails connecting the five towns that comprise Cinque Terre, and each trail is more beautiful than the last. Throughout the hike, you are either immersed in the vineyards or walking along the edge of the hills enjoying breath-taking vistas. Of all the places to travel this summer, this one is perfect for those craving the hike of a lifetime.

  1. Huaraz, Peru

Best Global Backpacking Trips

If you want the hiking experience, but don’t want the crowds that Cinque Terre draws, consider heading to Huaraz, Peru. Huaraz is a small mountain town in Peru with endless opportunities to get your boots dirty. This quaint town is far from well-known in the tourism industry, but that’s part of what makes it magical. The only other travelers you will meet here are the hard-core outdoorsy type looking for some next-level adventure.

And Huaraz really is perfect for some next-level adventure. Whether it’s completing the San Cruz Trek in the Cordillera Blanca mountains or enjoying the challenging, yet rewarding day hikes from Huaraz, you are going to be blown away by the sights and experiences in this little Peruvian town.

  1. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Best Exotic Summer Trips

If your summer travel goals are to experience some jaw-dropping beauty, then it’s time to head to Croatia. Honestly, I could make an entire list of places to travel this summer drawing solely from spots in Croatia. This country is so beautiful and incredibly diverse. And while I would recommend sea kayaking in Split or exploring the town of Dubrovnik, my favorite Croatian destination is Plitvice Lakes.

Plitvice Lakes National Park consists of winding trails and bridges that lead you through this maze-like network of waterfalls, lakes, and stunning scenery. The colors themselves are mind-boggling. Whether you go with a day tour or take some time to explore the area on your own, this is a must-see destination.

Whichever destination you choose, I can promise you one thing: without a doubt, it’s going to be a spectacular Summer. The world is full of endless beauty. The kind of beauty that overwhelms you, makes your heart feel full, and gives you the sense that you are seeing one of life’s true miracles.
